There is no single battery that fits every Ford F-150. Group 65, H6/48 and H7/94R are useful starting points, but the correct choice depends on the model year, engine and equipment. Interstate lists all three as possible F-150 matches and directs buyers to its exact-vehicle finder—not a universal fitment recommendation. Interstate F-150 battery guide

This guide covers the main 12-volt battery, with specific 2024 examples. It is not a high-voltage battery replacement guide, and the F-150 Lightning needs its own fitment and service instructions.

Identify the battery before buying

Have the truck’s VIN, model year, engine and Auto-Start-Stop equipment ready. Photograph the installed battery label and note its part number, chemistry, cold-cranking amps (CCA) and capacity markings. Then confirm those details against the applicable Ford manual or a VIN-based parts lookup. An old battery is a useful cross-check, not proof that a previous replacement was correct.

Two examples show why year alone is insufficient:

  • 2014 F-150 Limited, 3.5L gasoline: Batteries Plus lists Group 65 replacements, including flooded and AGM products. That listing does not establish Group 65 fitment for every older F-150. 2014 Limited fitment catalogue
  • 2020 F-150 XL, 3.5L gasoline: Ford OEM Parts Online’s battery diagram lists both Motorcraft H6 and H7 part numbers. Resolve the equipment-specific choice before ordering either. 2020 XL battery catalogue

Specific 2024 Ford battery references

Ford’s U.S./Canada 2024 owner’s manual gives these main-battery references:

2024 engine/variant Motorcraft battery reference Size/type
2.7L EcoBoost BAGM-48H6-760 H6/48 AGM
3.5L EcoBoost, excluding Raptor BAGM-48H6-760 standard; BAGM-94RH7-800 optional H6/48 or H7/94R AGM
3.5L EcoBoost Raptor BAGM-94RH7-800 H7/94R AGM
3.5L hybrid/PowerBoost BAGM-94RH7-800 H7/94R AGM
5.0L V8 BAGM-48H6-760 standard; BAGM-94RH7-800 optional H6/48 or H7/94R AGM

Source: 2024 F-150 owner’s manual, Motorcraft Parts sections. “Optional” is Ford’s listing, not permission to substitute a larger battery without confirming your truck’s specification and fit.

RockAuto specifies the Motorcraft H6 at 760 CCA and 120 minutes reserve capacity, and the H7 at 800 CCA and 140 minutes reserve capacity. The listed cases are approximately 11 inches and 12.29 inches long, respectively. They are not physically identical. H6 specifications · H7 specifications

Before paying, verify:

  • Case length, width and height, including terminal clearance.
  • Positive/negative post layout and cable reach.
  • Tray, hold-down and battery-cover fit.
  • Approved chemistry, CCA and capacity; any vent connection.

Do not downgrade a specified AGM battery to flooded merely to save money. Ford requires exactly the same replacement specification and specifically warns that Auto-Start-Stop vehicles have different battery requirements. Switching the feature off is not a reason to change that specification. Ford battery precautions

What does an F-150 battery cost?

These are U.S. product-price examples checked October 11, 2026, not installed-job estimates or brand rankings:

Battery example Listed price Refundable core deposit
Duracell Ultra Gold Group 65 flooded, 750 CCA $199.99 $22
Motorcraft BAGM-48H6-760 AGM $183.79 $18
Motorcraft BAGM-94RH7-800 AGM $178.79 $18

For a shop or dealer quote, ask for an itemized total covering the exact battery, testing, installation, terminal cleaning, any required battery-management reset, tax and core handling. Cable or tray repairs should be separate line items. Use the battery replacement cost checklist to compare like-for-like quotes rather than battery-only prices against complete jobs.

Access and replacement: a 2024 example

The 2024 main 12-volt battery is in the engine compartment. Ford notes that additional components may need removal or disconnection, so inspect access before starting. Ford’s 2024 replacement instructions

Wear eye protection, provide ventilation and keep sparks and flames away. Stop if you cannot identify all batteries or safely reach the connections. Ford warns that disconnecting only one battery on a multi-battery vehicle does not isolate its electrical system. Do not treat this 12-volt sequence as a hybrid high-voltage isolation procedure. 2024 battery precautions

Ford’s main-battery replacement sequence is:

  1. Apply the parking brake, switch the ignition and electrical equipment off, then wait at least two minutes.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative terminal first, then the positive. Disconnect and secure a vent tube if fitted.
  3. Remove the securing clamp and battery.
  4. Install the matching battery in reverse order, keeping the ignition off and reconnecting positive before negative. Restore the clamp, vent tube, terminal covers and battery cover.

Follow the applicable instructions for your truck; these steps are not a universal procedure for every F-150 year. Ford also notes that an automatic transmission must relearn its adaptive strategy after battery disconnection or replacement and may initially shift firmly. Ford’s 2024 replacement sequence and relearning note

Battery-sensor reset is separate from overnight relearning

For the 2024 F-150, Ford specifies this reset after installing a new battery:

  1. Switch the ignition on with the engine off.
  2. Flash the high beams five times, ending with them off.
  3. Press and release the brake pedal three times.

Complete steps 2 and 3 within 10 seconds. Three flashes of the battery warning lamp confirm success. Use your own model-year instructions rather than assuming this sequence applies to every F-150. Ford’s 2024 sensor-reset instructions

Ford separately calls for eight hours of vehicle sleep time, fully locked with the ignition off, to relearn battery state of charge after replacement. That relearning is not the same task as the sensor reset. Window bounce-back, clock and radio settings also need resetting under Ford’s instructions. 2024 owner’s manual, Battery Management System Limitations and Changing the 12V Battery

If the battery lamp illuminates while driving, do not assume another battery will fix it: Ford identifies that as a charging-system error and instructs owners to switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and have the vehicle immediately checked. A new battery does not replace charging-system diagnosis. 2024 owner’s manual, 12V Battery Warning Lamps
