Honda Accord Battery: Match the Year and Engine Before Buying
Compare Honda Accord 12-volt battery sizes, dated U.S. prices, hybrid differences, and installation and reset checks before buying a replacement.

There is no single battery size for every Honda Accord. Confirm the model year, engine, hybrid status and battery technology before ordering.
This guide covers the 12-volt battery, with U.S. price examples checked October 10, 2026. For the high-voltage traction pack, use the separate Accord Hybrid battery replacement guide.
Which battery fits your Accord?
These are specific catalogue examples, not a universal year-range chart. The CCA figures describe the listed replacement products; they are not factory minimums.
| Accord configuration | Listed replacement size and technology | Example product rating |
|---|---|---|
| 2000, 2.3-liter four-cylinder | Group 35, flooded | Interstate MT-35: 550 CCA |
| 2015, 2.4-liter four-cylinder | Group 51R, flooded | Interstate M-51R: 425 CCA |
| 2017, 3.5-liter V6 | Group 24F, flooded | Interstate MT-24F: 600 CCA |
| 2018, 1.5-liter four-cylinder | H5, flooded | Interstate MTP-47/H5: 650 CCA |
| 2018, 2.0-liter four-cylinder, standard option | H6, flooded | Interstate MTP-48/H6: 730 CCA |
| 2024 EX, 1.5-liter gasoline | Group 47/H5, AGM | Duracell Ultra SLI47AGM: 670 CCA, 60 Ah |
Before paying, have the seller verify fitment by VIN or complete vehicle configuration. Check:
- Case length, width and height, including clearance above the posts.
- Positive and negative terminal positions and cable reach.
- Tray, hold-down and insulating cover fit.
- Flooded, EFB or AGM technology, plus required capacity and starting rating.
Treat the installed battery as a cross-check, not proof: a previous owner may have fitted the wrong one. Resolve any conflict between its label, the catalogue and Honda’s requirements before installation.
Do not choose a conventional flooded battery simply because it fits an idle-stop Accord’s tray. Honda’s 2025 gasoline manual requires the specified battery type and size for Auto Idle Stop, warning that another type may shorten battery life or prevent idle stop from activating. It requires a replacement with the same specifications. Honda replacement guidance
How much does replacement cost?
Separate a battery-only price from an installed repair estimate.
Battery-only examples checked October 10, 2026:
- Interstate M-51R for the 2015 2.4-liter: $139.95 suggested retail. Product listing
- Duralast Gold 51R-DLG: $219.99, plus a $22 refundable core deposit, on AutoZone’s 2017 Accord page. Exact-vehicle fitment still needs confirmation. Retail listing
- Duracell Ultra Group 47 AGM for the 2024 EX 1.5-liter: $259.99, plus a $22 refundable core deposit, before any applicable promotion. Retail listing
Store prices and availability can vary by location. Confirm the core-return terms before purchase.
Installed estimates vary substantially by year. RepairPal’s September 3, 2026 update lists $211–$234 for 2015–2017, $273–$296 for 2018–2020, $376–$399 for 2021–2022, and $425–$470 for 2023–2025. These are model-year estimates, not trim-specific dealer quotes, and exclude taxes and fees. Its all-year average of $244–$267 is therefore a poor stand-alone budget for a newer Accord. For DIY, budget for the verified battery, tax and any tools or damaged mounting parts. For parts-store installation, confirm eligibility and the installation charge. Ask an independent shop or dealer for an itemized total covering the battery part number, technology and warranty; testing and labor; terminal cleaning; any necessary reset work; and taxes, fees and core return.
Check your receipt and the Honda battery warranty guide before buying another battery.
Test before replacing
Slow cranking, clicking or an unresponsive car justify testing, but do not establish that the battery alone has failed. RepairPal recommends checking the starting and charging system: a discharged battery may need charging and retesting, while cables, wiring or the alternator may require repair. Its alternator advice applies to conventional gasoline models, not a universal hybrid procedure. Diagnostic guidance
Ask for the test result and charging-system findings, especially if the battery repeatedly goes flat. For age-based planning, see Honda Accord battery life and testing.
A hybrid still has a separate 12-volt battery. Honda provides a 12-volt jump-start procedure for the 2025 Accord Hybrid, so a no-start does not by itself identify a failed traction pack. Honda Hybrid jump-start guidance
Location and DIY stop points
The 2025 gasoline Accord and Accord Hybrid have their 12-volt battery under the hood, as described in Honda’s gasoline jump-start procedure and hybrid procedure. For another year, check its own manual rather than treating those diagrams as an exact access guide.
Use the following as a planning sequence, not a substitute for your vehicle’s service instructions:
- Turn the vehicle fully off, apply the parking brake and switch off accessories. Wear protective clothing and a face shield; keep sparks and flames away.
- Photograph the terminal layout and hold-down. Stop if the case leaks, mounting hardware is badly corroded, or you cannot identify the terminals confidently.
- Disconnect negative first, then positive, and secure the cables away from the posts. Never bridge the posts with a tool or let a tool connect a live positive terminal to body metal. Avoid levering against any negative-terminal sensor or its wiring.
- Remove the hold-down and battery. Inspect the tray and connections, then install the verified replacement securely. Use the applicable tightening specifications rather than guessing.
- Reconnect positive first, negative last. Refit protective covers and check that the battery cannot move.
Honda specifies negative-first disconnection and negative-last reconnection, and identifies a battery-monitoring sensor on the 2025 negative terminal. RepairPal describes hold-down removal and installation. Honda safety and sensor guidance, connection order, replacement sequence, cable-isolation and short-circuit precautions.
On the 2025 Hybrid, do not disconnect the battery during a system update: Honda warns of permanent electrical-system damage. Its replacement must also match the specified type and size. Keep this job confined to the 12-volt battery; leave traction-pack work to a qualified hybrid technician. Honda Hybrid battery instructions
Registration, resets and warning lights
Do not assume every Accord needs paid battery registration or coding—or that every version is reset-free. Ask the installer which service procedure applies to your VIN and what any quoted reset accomplishes. Battery-management resets, audio reactivation and equipment relearns are different tasks.
Honda says reset procedures vary by vehicle and system, with some requiring scan-tool software. That statement is in collision-repair guidance; it does not establish a universal coding charge for an ordinary Accord battery swap. Honda service-information guidance
For the 2025 gasoline Accord, Honda says disconnection disables the audio system and resets the clock. Certain amber stability, driver-assistance, TPMS and brake-system indicators may also appear after reconnection. Honda says they should clear after a short drive above 12 mph (20 km/h). Follow that model-specific instruction only when the car otherwise operates safely. If indicators remain, have it inspected rather than repeatedly disconnecting the battery.
