No U.S. 2024 Stinger: Verify Before Buying a Battery

There is no U.S.-market 2024 Kia Stinger model year. Kia described 2023 as the Stinger’s final model year, with the Tribute Edition based on the 2023 GT2 and offered in rear- or all-wheel drive (Kia America, April 18, 2023).

If a registration, sales listing or parts website calls the car a “2024 Kia Stinger,” do not order a battery from that description alone. Enter the full 17-character VIN in NHTSA’s VIN decoder, then have a Kia parts counter or battery retailer check the same VIN. A 2024 registration date does not make the car a 2024 model.

Confirm AGM Capacity And Case Size

For the actual 2023 Stinger, the available parts catalog identifies both 80Ah and 90Ah AGM battery configurations across the 2.5-liter and 3.3-liter applications. It also lists a battery hold-down and vent hose (KiaPartsNow 2023 catalog). The engine alone therefore does not establish the exact replacement battery.

Retail catalogs add another complication. On September 24, 2026, AutoZone’s 2023 Stinger page displayed both H7/94R AGM and H8/49 AGM batteries. Its listed examples included H7 and H8 batteries at $259.99 plus a $22 refundable core deposit, along with premium H7 options at about $378–$380. The listings also told shoppers to check whether each battery fits their Stinger (AutoZone). These batteries are candidates, not proof that either size fits every 2023 car.

Before buying, compare the replacement battery with the installed battery and the VIN-specific catalog record. Verify all of the following:

• AGM chemistry
• 80Ah or 90Ah capacity on the label
• Case length, width and height
• H7/94R or H8/49 designation, if shown
• Positive-terminal position and cable reach
• Lower hold-down profile
• Cold-cranking rating
• A compatible connection for the battery vent hose

H7 and H8 batteries are not interchangeable merely because a retailer displays both. H8 is the longer case, so tray space and hold-down position matter. Review these H7/94R fitment checks before treating a group number as a complete specification.

Stop if the installed label is unreadable or conflicts with the catalog. Give the VIN and old battery measurements to the seller and request written fitment confirmation.

The Battery Is Below The Rear Cargo Floor

The Stinger’s 12-volt battery is below the rear cargo-area covers rather than in the engine bay. A 2023 parts diagram confirms the important installation hardware: a hold-down, negative-cable sensor and vent hose (2023 Kia Stinger parts diagram).

Kia’s published 2019 Stinger owner’s manual—not a 2023 service manual—states that the negative cable should be removed first and installed last. The platform details and 2023 parts diagram make that useful planning information, but torque values and the exact access procedure should come from service information applicable to the car’s VIN (2019 Stinger owner’s manual).

Use this replacement sequence only as a planning outline:

1. Park securely, switch off the ignition and accessories, and open the liftgate before disconnecting power.
2. Remove the necessary cargo-floor panels. Photograph the terminals, fuse-box position, hold-down and vent-hose routing.
3. Disconnect the negative terminal first. Do not strain the sensor incorporated into the negative-cable assembly.
4. Isolate the positive connection so a tool cannot bridge it to body metal.
5. Remove the hold-down and lift the battery safely. A large AGM battery is heavy.
6. Install only the verified AGM equivalent, secure the hold-down and reconnect the vent hose.
7. Reconnect the positive terminal first and the negative terminal last. Check that the battery and terminals cannot move.

Stop if the fuse-box assembly, sensor, vent fitting or cable routing differs from the applicable procedure. Do not omit the vent connection from a replacement battery installed inside the cargo area.

Coding Is Unconfirmed, But Sensor Calibration Is Documented

The reviewed sources do not establish a BMW-style registration or coding requirement for a 2023 Stinger. Do not pay for “coding” without asking what Kia procedure or scan-tool function the shop intends to perform.

There is a documented battery-sensor calibration period. The 2019 Stinger manual says that after an AGM battery is reconnected or replaced, the idle stop-and-go function may not work immediately. It specifies approximately four hours with the ignition off, followed by turning the engine on and off two or three times, for battery-sensor calibration (2019 Stinger owner’s manual). Confirm that this instruction applies to the VIN before relying on it for a 2023 car.

The same manual identifies possible resets after battery disconnection: auto up/down windows, sunroof, trip computer, climate control and driver-position memory. A shop quote should state whether it includes post-installation testing and any required resets, rather than covering only the physical battery exchange.

Battery Examples Start Near $260 Before Installation

For U.S. planning purposes, the AutoZone examples were about $260 for an H7 or H8 AGM battery, before a refundable $22 core deposit. Premium H7 examples approached $380 on September 24, 2026.

Kelley Blue Book displayed an installed estimate of $304–$371, including parts and labor, for a 2023 Stinger in ZIP 29405 on the research date. Its dealer estimate was $304–$356, while its independent-shop estimate was $315–$371 (Kelley Blue Book). This was a location-specific estimate, not a nationwide quote.

Ask whether a quote includes the correct AGM capacity, labor, core credit, vent-hose connection, terminal service, post-installation resets and charging-system testing.
